Free Summer Camp.
Did you know that, in the summer, many area churches offer a program called Vacation Bible School?
Also known as 'VBS' for short, this is usually a week-long program, in which children of all ages participate in arts and crafts, music, games, and other fun activities, along with daily bible lessons. Many programs even have a family event at the end of the week, such as a cookout.
My son participated in VBS at the Lutheran Church of the Savior in Bedford, for several years. We learned about the program through his preschool, which was at the church. At that time, the LCS program ran for one week, Monday through Friday from 9 am until noon. Some churches run their program in the evening, which can be more accommodating for working parents.
I have never heard of a VBS program that charges a fee. However, a small donation is appreciated. In addition, if you can volunteer your time for the week, or even for one day or a few hours, that is appreciated as well.
While VBS is not a substitute for a full Summer Camp experience, it can be a fun adventure for you and your child!
