Taking the First Step
If you, or someone you care about, have a problem with alcohol, drugs, or even an eating disorder, there is probably a 12-step group in your area that can help.
12-step recovery groups are comprised of people who share a common problem, working together to help themselves and each other through the steps of recovery.
There are groups for Alcoholism (AA), drug addiction (NA), overeating disorders (OA) and others. There are also 12-step support groups for those living with, or caring for, a loved one with one of the above, such as Al-Anon and Nar-Anon.
These groups are FREE, and meet on an ongoing basis. There is no need to pre-register. All you have to do is find a group near you and show up! The groups often meet in public buildings and churches, but are usually self-sufficient programs, not affiliated with any government or religious organization. There are usually several groups that meet in various locations and at various times, in any given community. This flexibility should make it fairly easy to find one to fit your schedule.
