Make-up Tips for Formal Photos

Your daily makeup routine may be very colorful, very natural or even none at all. But if you are going to be sitting for formal portraits, whether for a wedding, or a family photo session, you will want to take extra care with your color cosmetics.

Here are a few tips you may want to use:

Choose your colors in advance. Don't wait until the day of the sitting to decide what look you want. Play with some different colors, in different types of lighting, until you find a combination you like.

Go for a matte finish. Using a cream-to-powder foundation, or finishing with a loose powder, can help you achieve this look. If your skin tends to be oily, try using an oil mattifier product or oil control lotion.

Define your eyes. Be sure to use eyeliner and mascara, but blend the liner for a softer look. Use eye shadows that are soft, neutral and enhance your natural eye color. For this type of occasion steer clear of sparkly eye shadows, as the camera will accentuate the shine.

Be sure to use cheek color, so you do not look 'washed out'. If you overdo it, you can always tone it down a bit with a loose powder.

On lips, be sure to soften first with a good lip balm. Using a coordinating lip liner over your entire lip, under your lipstick will help your lipstick stay put. Finish off with a coordinating or natural lip gloss.
