A Great Place to Spend a Rainy Day

I love to shop. Mostly I love to shop for clothes. Unfortunately my husband and my son do not share my passion. Sometimes, on a rainy day, or a summer day that is too hot for anything else, going to a nice, air conditioned mall seems like a good idea. However, the boys get bored with that very quickly.

One shopping experience that we all seem to enjoy is going to a bookstore. Usually for us, this means going to the big Barnes & Noble in Burlington. You really could spend an entire day there. There is something for everyone.

There is a wonderful café where you can have a snack and read a book or magazine. There are comfortable places to sit throughout the store, and no one minds if you take a book of the shelf and sit down to read for a while. There is a music department where you can listen with earphones before buying. There is a wonderful children's section with places to sit and read aloud. You can find books here about any topic.

Bookstores often host special events, such as book groups, writer's groups, story hours, and even visits from authors or from children's book characters. For example I just learned that the mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie will be visiting Barnes & Noble soon!

A bookstore is also a great place to find gifts. There are books to suit every taste, music, gift items, and even gift cards for the hard-to-buy-for person on your list.

You can spend a day in a bookstore, enjoy yourself, and not even buy anything! Unfortunately, we usually end up coming out having spent at least fifty dollars! Still, this is a nice place to go as a family, where everyone can have a good time.
